BackGround est un laboratoire de Contact Improvisation ouvert à toutes et tous, qui explore le corps comme matière résonante en relation avec l’espace, le sol et les autres corps. La pratique invite à porter son attention sur l’arrière du corps, cet espace qui soutient sans être vu, ainsi que vers le sol comme lieu tangible de soutien, d’ancrage et de dépôt.

BackGround, c’est aussi ce qui demeure en arrière-plan de l’attention, mais qui pourtant nous informe continuellement. Le laboratoire propose des outils pour prendre conscience, observer et entrer en relation avec ce qui est déjà là : le poids, la gravité, les mouvements intérieurs, les états qui nous traversent, les stimuli provenant de l’environnement.

À travers des outils issus du Contact Improvisation, de la Méthode Feldenkrais et de la Composition Instantanée, nous cultivons un état de présence et de disponibilité, dans lequel le corps peut se déployer dans toute sa complexité et son potentiel, en laissant émerger et en faisant confiance à son intelligence kinesthésique.

BackGround è un laboratorio di Contact Improvisation aperto a tuttə, che esplora il corpo come materia risonante in relazione allo spazio, al suolo e agli altri corpi. La pratica invita a portare attenzione all’emisfero posteriore, campo che sostiene senza essere visto e al “ground”come luogo incarnato di sostegno, radicamento e tranquillità.
BackGround è anche ciò che resta sullo sfondo dell’attenzione ma che continuamente ci informa. Il laboratorio offre strumenti per notare, osservare ed entrare in relazione con ciò che già è: il peso, la gravità, gli eventi interni, gli stati che ci attraversano, gli stimoli provenienti dall’ambiente. Attraverso strumenti che attingono alla Contact Improvisation al Metodo Feldenkrais e alla Composizione Istantanea, si coltiva uno stato di presenza e prontezza,  in cui il corpo puó dispiegarsi nella sua complessità e potenzialità, lasciando emergere e affidandosi alla sua intelligenza cinestetica.

BackGround is a Contact Improvisation workshop open to all, exploring the body as resonant matter in relation to space, the ground, and other bodies. The practice invites attention to the posterior hemisphere, a field that supports without being seen and to the ground as an embodied place of support, rooting, and calm.
BackGround is also what remains at the edge of attention yet continuously informs us. The workshop offers tools to notice, observe and establish a relation with what is already there: weight, gravity, inner events, changes of states, impulses arising from the environment. Through tools from Contact Improvisation, Feldenkrais Method and Instant Composition, participants cultivate a state of present readiness and awareness, allowing the body to unfold in its full complexity and potential, trusting and revealing its kinesthetic intelligence.

MACULA est un collectif de recherche artistique fondé en 2021 par les italiens Edoardo Sgambato et Priscilla Pizziol, rejoint à partir de 2022 par Walter Laureti pour la recherche sonore. Le collectif évolue dans le champ des arts performatifs à travers une approche transdisciplinaire, naviguant dans un espace liminal entre danse et recherche somatique. Le corps y est envisagé comme une matière sensible, perméable et vulnérable, guidée par la perception, tandis que la chorégraphie est pensée comme un système ouvert et neuroplastique de relations entre les corps, les objets et l’espace.

La première pièce scénique de MACULA, AMELIA (2023), a été soutenue par Zerogrammi et sélectionnée par plusieurs plateformes, parmi lesquelles Kilowatt, Ammutinamenti et Aurillac. Elle a reçu le Prix d’Écriture Chorégraphique au festival Cortoindanza et a été présentée à la Vetrina della Giovane Danza d’Autore 2024. Le projet a également reçu le soutien de la compagnie française La Baraka, dans le cadre du festival Presente/Futuro, donnant lieu à une invitation en résidence à La Chapelle (Chapelle Sainte-Marie) à Annonay, en France.

Actuellement, MACULA développe deux nouveaux projets, tous deux soutenus par la structure de production Zerogrammi : Nonostante le macerie, un projet site-specific initié lors d’une résidence de recherche au Le Gymnase | CDCN en France, dans le cadre du programme de résidences Nuovo Grand Tour. Le projet sera présenté en première au festival Immediatus Biennale en République tchèque, puis fera ses débuts à Aoste. Le second projet, Greetings from the Void, est une performance-installation créée en collaboration avec le designer sonore Walter Laureti et la danseuse et autrice Beatrice Capanni. Il explore des croisements sensoriels immersifs entre mouvement, son et expérience spatiale.

Depuis 2023, le collectif développe Landscapes for Composition, un projet de formation professionnelle réunissant plus de 50 danseur·euses venant de toute l’Europe. Depuis 2021, MACULA a également animé des ateliers dans plus de 30 structures, destinés aussi bien à des participant·es professionnel·les qu’à des publics non professionnels, en Italie et à l’étranger.

Il primo lavoro scenico di MACULA, AMELIA (2023), è stato sostenuto da Zerogrammi e selezionato da diverse piattaforme, tra cui Kilowatt, Ammutinamenti e Aurillac. Ha ricevuto il Premio di Scrittura Coreografica al festival Cortoindanza ed è stato presentato alla Vetrina della Giovane Danza d’Autore 2024. Il lavoro ha inoltre ricevuto riconoscimenti dalla compagnia francese La Baraka all’interno del festival Presente/Futuro, ottenendo un invito per una residenza presso La Chapelle (Chapelle Sainte-Marie) ad Annonay, Francia.
Attualmente, MACULA sta sviluppando due nuovi progetti, entrambi sostenuti dall’organizzazione di produzione Zerogrammi: Nonostante le macerie, un progetto site-specific iniziato durante una residenza di ricerca presso Le Gymnase | CDCN in Francia, supportato dal programma di residenze Nuovo Grand Tour;  che verrà presentato in anteprima al festival Immediatus Biennale in Repubblica Ceca e debutterà ad Aosta, e Greetings from the Void, un lavoro performance/installazione creato in collaborazione con il sound designer Walter Laureti e la danzatrice/autrice Beatrice Capanni, che esplora intersezioni sensoriali immersive tra movimento, suono ed esperienza spaziale.
Dal 2023, il collettivo cura Landscapes for Composition, un progetto di formazione professionale che coinvolge oltre 50 danzatori provenienti da tutta Europa. Dal 2021, MACULA ha inoltre condotto workshop in più di 30 realtà , rivolti sia a partecipanti professionisti sia non professionisti, in Italia e all’estero.

MACULA is an artistic research collective founded in 2021 by Edoardo Sgambato and Priscilla Pizziol, with the sonic contribution of Walter Laureti since 2022. The collective operates in the field of performing arts with a transdisciplinary approach, navigating a liminal space between dance, theatre, visual arts and somatic research. The body is conceived as sensitive, permeable, and vulnerable matter, guided by perception, and choreography is understood as a neuroplastic, open system of relations between bodies, objects, and space.
MACULA’s first stage work, AMELIA (2023), was supported by Zerogrammi and selected by several platforms including Kilowatt, Ammutinamenti, and Aurillac. It received the Choreographic Writing Award at Cortoindanza and was presented at the Vetrina della Giovane Danza d’Autore 2024. The piece also earned recognition from the French company La Baraka within the Presente/Futuro festival, leading to an invitation for a residency at La Chapelle (Chapelle Sainte-Marie) in Annonay, France.
Currently, MACULA is developing two new projects, both supported by the production organization Zerogrammi: Nonostante le macerie, a site-specific project initiated during a research residency at Le Gymnase | CDCN in France, supported through the Nuovo Grand Tour residency program. Greetings from the Void, a performance/installation work created in collaboration with sound designer Walter Laureti and dancer/author Beatrice Capanni, exploring immersive sensory intersections between movement, sound, and spatial experience.
Since 2023, they have curated Landscapes for Composition, a professional training project involving over 50 dancers from across Europe. Since 2021, they have also led workshops in more than 30 venues, for both professional and non-professional participants, in Italy and abroad.
